5×hotter than the Sun's surface

The story behind it

Lightning is five times hotter than the surface of the Sun.

The air in the lightning channel can reach 50,000 degrees Fahrenheit, about 27,800 degrees Celsius. It expands violently and contracts again – and we hear that as thunder.
