What does most of the evidence point to?

The horse-blanket experiment

Researchers watched horse flies around zebras and horses on a farm in Britain. Then the same horses wore blankets in black, white and stripes in turn. With stripes, far fewer flies landed on them. On their uncovered heads there was no difference.

Botched landings

Videos showed that horse flies approached zebras faster and didn't slow down before contact. Instead of landing, they often just bumped into them. Up close, stripes seem to prevent a controlled landing – from a distance they have no effect.
